Apple’s Snow Leopard To Load Printer Drivers On demand

Background:I have an i560 Canon printer that worked well with my old Mac OS 9.2. I tried installing the drivers from the CD for a test run of using it with my iMac OS 10.6. The iMac and the printer "talked" -- one could hear the printer trying to print. But, there was no paper feed, no printing. I checked the paper, changed it, etc. Still no luck. I went on the Apple website and was directed to Canon's web site. From the Canon web site I downloaded a new driver purportedly OS 10.6 compatible. Now there is next to nothing happening when I try to print. Question:I wan tto uninstall both drivers and any associated "files". I use both a Mac and a PC. On my PC it would be no problem, but on the iMac OS 10.6 I can not find a way to uninstall. How does one identify the correct files, drivers, etc? How does one uninstall them?Thank you,Lucca

Given the notes I wrote down about the cd not being usable, I might have downloaded some new software then. But maybe all that is needed is already included (see also /Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter/Utilities/) and all that's to be done is go to System Preferences, Print & Fax to add a new printer. Here, go to More Printers, wait until "Searching for installed printer drivers" completes and select Canon IJ Network, which should then detect your printer.

Apple’s Snow Leopard to load printer drivers on demand

Note: using the old Canon software, like described in the original hint, may very well be a better idea! I doubt downloading those will change anything? Great hint. This was the only disappointment for me after installing Snow Leopard. I have an MX850 connected to my Airport Extreme Base Station and could no longer see it. The drivers from the apple site didn't help either. With printer sharing enabled on my wife's 10.5 machine I could connect, but hardly ideal. This hint worked perfectly, my Canon showed up via Print & Fax > IP > More Printers > Canon IJ Network. Works great in all apps so far, including Safari.

Twain SANE scanner driver packages don't recognise 10.6 and so won't install. This hopefully gets around this issue, so thanks!

I have a CANON PIXMA MX-850 network connected. Was working fine, on 10.5, upgrade to 10.6 deleted my printers. After that the Canon showed up as a scanner only. Same behavior everyone else is seeing. Very annoying.Go directly to canon and load their latest and greatest drivers. The released a bunch of new software in Sept of 2009. This still didn't resolve the issue. On a lark I downloaded the IJ Network took again. That is the tool that lets you set your printers network settings remotely. It installed, forced a reboot ran the software and I just confirmed the settings that it found. After that my printer showed up in the default list after that. Seems to work fine now.Rod

Just in case someone made the same mistake I did:After Canon posted their new driver for the all-in-one mp620 printer/scanner I ASSUMED that the one driver worked for the printer/scanner. After installing the driver at the top of the list I could print again - yay! But, I still couldn't scan! After a few days of grumbling about still not being able to scan I went back to the Canon website and read a little more carefully - guess what? This all-in-one device requires two, separate drivers! I downloaded the SEPARATE driver for the scanner component and it worked! After 1 month of not being able to print and/or scan - I'm finally back up and running!

I have the Cannon Pixma MP 560 and Snow Leopard 10.6 and had trouble with adding printer. Once I downloaded the following two drivers from Cannon, it worked: -MP560 series MP Driver Ver.1.0 for Network (Mac OS X 10.6) mp560sosxns10ea7-3.dmg -MP560 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 10.26.2.0 (Mac OS X 10.5/10.6) mp560sosxcp102620ea8-2.dmg

I spent a wee while on this and got it working. Thanks for the various pointers. to get my printer (PIXMA MP560) working on snow leopard I had to:download MP Drivers for Network and OSX CUPS Printer Driver. The MP Drivers for network wernt then able to find my printer.I plugged it in via USB, and went to system preferences > Printers > add printers and it was listed. Then, a moment later, it was listed again. Remove the USB, and its still there - add the wireless printer.

Well after hours of trying to install the Canon MP 620 driver on her Mac book with snow leopard I finally figured it out!!I successfully had installed this driver on my MBP months ago, but couldn't remember exactly how I did it. It took me hours the first time as it doesn't work as it's supposed to. The secret?? go to the website and install the latest drivers, I know there are 4 pieces of software with very poor descriptions as to what they are, I just installed all of them, it still doesn't get you working. 2. Go to your printer and fax settings in preferences.3. Click the + option at the bottom of the box or list of installed printers. Make sure the printer is on4. Select the default choice at the top of the window whether it is going to be the default or not This is the KEY!!!!5 select the Canon MP620 series (00.xxxx....) which should show up in a few seconds Kind should read canonijnetwork6. Ciick add it should then come up with a dialogue and add the printer dialogue. Finally!!!I hope this helps save you many hours.

It is possible that a USB2.0 cable might help, but the big question in my opinion is why wouldn't it come with one - especially if you need one for proper operation of the device? I might first try a bit of troubleshooting such as removing the printer device and all related software from your Mac, maybe create a new account on the computer, re-add the device, run software update, then see if you are able to scan (NOTE you should not need to install the drivers above, and if you don't need them then I would stay away from them.) If you still have trouble, try a new cable; you can always return it if it doesn't work (depending on where you get it from.)Out of curiosity, what does it say when you select the printer in System Profiler (hold Option and click on the apple menu.)Edited on Mar 09, '11 07:19:53AM by everkleer80 2ff7e9595c
